Baby drinking almond milk develops scurvy

For many generations, people in India have relied on cow's full fat organic milk for meeting the nutritional needs of babies and toddlers. The use of cow's full cream milk for toddlers has turned out to be a good practice, as it has helped our young ones to grow mentally and physically strong. Even toned milk has worked well since double toned milk nutrition is mostly the same as full fat organic milk, excluding of course the amount of fat content.

However, in recent times, many brands have started offering plant based milk products such as almond milk. This is not a sustainable development since it has been proven in laboratory studies that plant based milk products such as almond milk is not a whole food and is nutrient deficient. A case supporting this deficient nature of plant based milk products has recently come up in Spain. In this case, a 11-month baby, who was drinking only almond milk, has been diagnosed with Scurvy, a disease that is caused by the deficiency of Vitamin C. Details of this case have been published in the Pediatrics journal and it points out to the risks associated with plant based milk products for babies and toddlers. The baby was severely affected, as he used to be very unstable when in the sitting position. He remained tired and irritable, and would find it difficult to stand on a solid surface. Femur fractures were found during medical examination and extremely low Vitamin C levels, which prompted doctors to diagnose it as Scurvy.

Some experts opine that in this particular case, the synthetic chemicals used in processing almond milk may be inhibiting the absorption of essential nutrients such as Vitamin C. Plant based milk products such as almond milk may appear to be nutrient rich in theory, but what they are essentially is factory produced and laden with chemicals. In comparison, cow’s full fat organic milk and cow’s full cream milk for toddlers are 100% natural, safe and healthy.

Using plant based milk products is like going against nature. This may not be good since we are yet to fully understand how nature and our bodies work, especially in the long term. Till things are clearer, it would be a wise decision to use natural food sources such as full fat organic milk and full cream milk for toddlers. Even toned milk would be good since double toned milk nutrition is not very different from full fat milk, if you exclude the fat portion.

Fresh milk can help prevent asthma, say German researchers

The health benefits of fresh milk or organic full cream milk have time and again been revealed in many research studies. Now, a new research conducted in Germany has come up with interesting findings about the benefits of unprocessed cow milk.

The research
The research is highly credible since it was conducted at the prestigious Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (LMU). Another thing that substantiates the reliability of the research study is that it involved the participation of more than a thousand children residing in rural areas. The mother of each and every child was asked to keep records about the nutrition of their child as well as any diseases that the child may have been afflicted with during the six years of the study period. When this data was gathered and analyzed, researchers found out that children in the group that regularly consumed fresh milk or organic full cream milk had a significantly lower incidence of asthma disease.

Omega 3 identified as a vital nutrient in fresh milk
The German researchers have identified the contribution of Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (FAs) towards the reduced risk of asthma in children up to six years of age. Fresh milk or organic full cream milk has higher levels of Omega 3 fatty acids and lower levels of Omega 6. As a rule of thumb, the lower the ratio of Omega 6 to Omega 3, the better a food product is rated in terms of health benefits. Now, if we compare full cream milk nutrition with double toned milk nutrition, we can see that double toned milk has less fat content. As such, it may not be able to provide the same level of protection against the onset of asthma in children. However, double toned milk nutrition is a choice people make based on their lifestyle, so it has its own specific benefits.

The findings of the German research are similar to the findings of research studies conducted in other European countries as well as countries outside Europe. The research has also revealed that the benefits of consuming fresh milk or organic full cream milk increase with the passage of time, especially in terms of preventing asthma in children. Such benefits are available even when the consumption of fresh milk may have started at a later stage of a child's life. This research tells parents to go ahead and provide the best nutrition to their children by giving them cow’s milk on a regular basis.

Scientists find gold in cow's urine; highlight its importance

The health benefits of cow milk products including best full cream milk and organic curd are well documented in a wide variety of research studies. Now, a new research study provides solid evidence that highlights the importance of cows in our society.

The research
The research involves the famous Gir Cow and it was conducted at Junagadh Agricultural University (JAU). Scientists at this university carried out extensive research on Gir cow's urine for nearly four years. It was due to their consistent efforts that they were finally able to prove the presence of gold in the urine of Gir cows. Samples were taken from around 400 Gir cows and tested at JAU's Food Testing Laboratory. It was revealed that the samples contained anywhere from 3 mg to 10 mg of gold in one liter of urine. The gold found by the scientists was in ionic form, which in layman's terms is ‘water soluble gold salts’.

Testing ancient knowledge
Scientists at the university said that ancient Indian scriptures have often talked about the health benefits of cow milk products including the best full cream milk and organic curd. These scriptures have also pointed out to the presence of gold and other compounds in cow urine and how these can be healthy for the human body. However, till now, there was no research study conducted to test such ancient claims. In view of this, scientists at JAU decided to test the knowledge of ancient Indian scriptures using scientific methods. The research scientists utilized gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) method to test the presence of gold in the urine of Gir cows.
The scientists were elated to find gold in the cow's urine samples, as it proved that ancient Indian scriptures were correct. Gold offers wide ranging health benefits such as anti-inflammatory properties, ability to enhance our mood, ability to improve cognitive functions, and rejuvenating properties. The research also found 5,100 other compounds in the samples, out of which 388 compounds have shown to possess highly effective medicinal properties. These compounds have the ability to cure a wide variety of ailments.

Another win for cows
The research provides all the more reasons to safeguard our cows. The health benefits of cow milk products including the best full cream milk and organic curd are part of our ancient knowledgebase. If our ancestors were right about the presence of gold in cow urine, then they are probably right about the benefits of cow milk products as well. So, say cheers to cow’s milk.
